Review: Kirkland Signature Crewneck T-Shirts
Costco simply never fails to amaze me; from free samples to a vast variety of wholesale items, the company is a model for treating their customers well. However, it’s their own staple brand Kirkland Signature that always finds a way to make good things great. Their standard crew neck t-shirts are no exception.
I love myself a great valued item. Whether that be a $5 rotisserie chicken to the god-sent $1.50 hotdog-drink combo, Costco ensures you receive a high-quality product at a low price. Their basic t-shirts (white or black) are such a bang for your buck, especially considering the quality you’re getting. Costco sells this shirt in packs of 6, with its price being $25. When divided, each shirt is about $4.16. I can’t even begin to emphasize enough the value you get with this price. To imagine that their whole store is like this is unfathomable. This t-shirt does have some of its own flaws, but these are far outshadowed by the bonuses you get. With price-to-quality, fit, and more, it’s hard to look past this shirt and I would 100% recommend you pick it up.
I want to dive headfirst into the quality of the shirt first. It’s 100% cotton (always a good sign) and has a nice thickness. The cotton feels amazing and of great quality. The collar as well is no exception. Because of the ribbed pattern paired with the thickness, the collar will be extremely durable and virtually impossible to rip through everyday wear. The thickness is also something I want to highlight. While not quite as dense as some other higher end shirts, it manages to immensely exceed the expectations that come with a $4 shirt. The stitching of the shirt is also quite nice. It’s not the best I’ve ever seen but it definitely does the job and over the two years I’ve worn it, it still has yet to fray. Overall, the quality, material, and feel is enough to make this shirt worth it.
The fit is also an essential aspect of a great t-shirt. From what I’ve noticed with my size L shirt, it’s an oversized fit. This means that the length of the shirt will be a little large as well as the sleeves coming closer to the elbows. The stitching for the arm sleeve also falls a little below the shoulders when wearing the shirt. From what I can notice, if you can find a size that suits you well, this shirt augments your features for the better. If you don’t like oversized shirts and prefer more form-fitting, then you don’t really need to go to a different brand. Simply size down upon this one and it should fit you like a glove. If you’re fine with the sleeve length but prefer a shorter shirt, just tuck in to your desired amount.
The final aspect of this shirt I want to go into is the sizing. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Costco’s attention to their customers and what they need shines through here. In a world where bigger people struggle to find beautifully fitting shirts, Costco manages to come through and be their saving grace. The sizing varies from small to 3x-large. It’s the little things they do that makes you feel Costco will always have your back.
While this shirt is of beautiful make, that’s not to say it doesn’t have flaws. I’ve mentioned this previously but some people with a keen eye might find the thickness to be…well not all that thick. In some context, this is true but only when compared to other thicker shirts. In reality, it still has a nice density that honestly would not be noticed if you weren’t looking for it. Another thing that could be concerning with this shirt is the breathability. This is a common occurrence with cotton shirts and some could find this slightly annoying. At first, it’s not really noticeable but once you start sweating, the moisture gets stuck in the shirt and it takes a little while for it to get out. It kind of feels like you’re trapped in a humid environment. Honestly, it’s really not that big of a deal because it’s not all that difficult to live with. When you get to a cooler place, the moisture will dry out. There are also only the two colors white and black but this isn’t a big issue since it’s just a basic. The final flaw I see are the wrinkles. This shirt is quite prone to wrinkling, especially after coming out of the washer. Just iron the shirt before wearing it and this problem is fixed but it’s just something I wanted to point out.
I love Costco and based on their shirts, I’m completely sure they love me too. You should find your size and pick up this shirt immediately because there is no reason not to. The price, quality, fit, and sizing options all make this shirt such a great value and you’d be insane not to love it. Any age and body type can wear this shirt without worrying about whether it looks good or not. Go to Costco, get the shirt, and applaud yourself because you just got an absolute steal.
